FUTURISTIC SECURITY COUNCIL

The Futuristic Security Council is among the most unique organs of Model United Nations conferences. Functioning as a Security Council set in the future, the FSC deals with a handful of political, military, economic, social and humanitarian crises which may be deduced from current day affairs. Unlike any other committee, it requires delegates to be imbued with imagination alongside logic to pass effective resolutions to tackle the issues. The objectives of the committee are to ensure that the world does not fall beyond the verge of existence, that the problems of 2024 do not escalate into an apocalyptic event, or at least to control within limits.

In the FSC, delegations of 1 person are present, however, similarly to the existing Security Council, the committee welcomes 5 Permanent Members with Veto Rights. On the other hand, to increase the excitement, not only the P5 States entertain the right to cancel an Amendment or Resolution, the Continuous Five (C5) countries have a shared veto power - meaning that with cooperation, compromises and unanimous decisions, they may overturn the votes. (To understand the full process, please, inspect the Rules of Procedure.)

To stay authentic to the values of the current political situation, the delegations of the Futuristic Security Council are required to oblige with their country’s policies set out in the Country Profiles and the Issue Descriptions. However, it is paramount that Delegates research the policies and objectives of the respected nations to induce a fruitful debate. Unlike the issues, it is guaranteed that the fun and success of the debates in the FSC will not be hypothetical.

As the FSC is an unconventional committee (not to mention it being a Security Council as well), we recommend it to Delegates with previous MUN experience (but welcome anyone interested).

Issues of 2025:

Diminishing the Escalation of a Global War in an Authoritarian Setting

Dealing with the Security Threats of the Accelerated Destruction of the Natural Environment

Countering Newly Formed Terrorist Organisations in Light of Recently Disclosed Files

The Issue Descriptions and the Country Profiles are expected to be uploaded in February.
